At 64" wide, the VS-640 is Roland’s largest, fastest and most versatile VersaCAMM printer/cutter to date, designed to produce signs, banners, vehicle graphics and wraps, fine art posters, packaging prototypes, labels, decals, POP displays, heat transfers for apparel and more.
The VS-640 combines a new generation of print head technology with integrated print/cut capabilities, print speeds up to 23.1 sqmtr./hr. in dual CMYK mode and advanced media handling for unmatched print quality and unattended production capabilities. Metallic and white inks allow users to add impact to virtually any graphic.
The VS-640 brings the last 20 years of innovation and expertise to one device, including integrated printing and contour cutting capabilities, next generation print head technology and accelerated print speeds all in a 64” platform. Available in three ink configurations, it is also capable of printing white text, graphics and floods and hundreds of brilliant metallic colors for premium graphics and wraps. Priced affordably, the VersaCAMM VS-640 is both an exceptional value and a powerful production tool.
The VS-640 produces gold, silver and other metallic effects on demand. Unlike offset and flexo presses, the VS-640 has no plates to process, making production easy, seamless and cost effective.
Featuring Metallic Silver ECO-SOL MAX ink, the VS-640 allows professionals to take full advantage of Roland’s advanced inkjet technology. Thousands of metallic colors are available, adding value and sophistication to any graphic or marketing message. Metallic Silver ECO-SOL MAX ink has been recognized as a DPI Product of the Year, an accolade that reflects its exceptional image quality.
The VS-640 features Roland’s most advanced print head to date featuring variable droplet technology that automatically combines droplets of varying sizes to optimize image quality. With the new technology, seven droplet sizes are available. As a result, the VS-640 delivers exceptional quality prints that display smooth gradations when viewed up close.
To prevent the pigments in metallic silver and white inks from settling, the VS-640 comes with Roland’s unique, patent-pending automated ink circulation system. The system automatically reduces waste of white and metallic silver ink by up to 84% for dramatically lower running costs. The system ensures exceptional image quality throughout the longest production runs.
A true production printer, the VS-640 features an advanced media handling system allowing users to feed rolls up to 88 lbs. Upgraded media flanges and seven pinch rollers secure the heaviest media in place for accurate feeding and tracking through long production runs. Adjustable print heads enable you to accommodate variable media thicknesses.
Roland printers are designed to dry prints quickly even in high-speed modes for immediate finishing, installation and collection by the optional take-up system. The VS-640 features a built-in 2-stage integrated heater system to accommodate a wide range of media options. This advanced system precisely controls the proper amount of heat for each application, yielding outstanding results every time. For maximum convenience, users can store individual settings right in the printer.
The VS-640 streamlines the production process by automatically contour cutting printed graphics. By eliminating the need to reload and reposition graphics, the VS-640 integrated printer/cutter saves valuable time and effort.
For laminating graphics, simply remove prints, laminate and reload them for precision cutting. The Quadralign four-point optical registration system automatically realigns the cutting path and compensates for skew and distortion. The VS-640 also functions as stand-alone vinyl cutter.
ECO-SOL MAX is a remarkable innovation in ink technology, offering fast drying time, high density, wide color gamut, rugged scratch resistance, low cost per square foot, and broad uncoated media support. In addition, ECO-SOL MAX is virtually odorless.
For the standard VS-640 configuration, ECO-SOL MAX comes in CMYK+Mt+W ink sets (220ml cartridges). A double white model is also available (CMYK+WW). ECO-SOL MAX graphics are water and UV resistant up to 3 years outdoors* for CMYK graphics, up to 1 year outdoors for White ink and 1-3 years outdoors for Metallic Silver ink.
* Outdoor durability is based on accelerated weather tests. Results may vary depending upon location and application. Dry times vary depending on specific media characteristics. Lamination may be required for some applications or environmental conditions.
Eco-SOL Media is developed especially for Roland ECO-SOL MAX ink, which is used by VersaCAMM® and SOLJET inkjets. It includes a wide selection of competitively priced, uncoated adhesive-backed vinyls and other popular substrates. The line-up currently consists of glossy, matte, clear and translucent calendered, premium cast vinyl, premium reflective vinyl, view-through vinyl, flame retardant scrim banner, blockout scrim banner and solvent glossy paper.
Roland also offers an additional 20 materials that optimize SOLJET and VersaCAMM® print quality. They include heat transfer material, backlit film, matte artist canvas and a high-quality matte paper in its SCM, PQM, PGM and PCM media line-ups.
The VS-640 takes full advantage of Roland VersaWorks RIP software. This true Adobe PostScript 3 RIP is designed by Roland to ensure exceptional production output with unmatched ease of use and uses the latest Adobe CPSI 3018 engine. VersaWorks uses Roland Intelligent Pass Control to optimize the output quality on the VS-640 and estimates the ink usage and print time for each graphic produced. The Roland Color System accurately reproduces spot colors from Roland Color charts and swatch books.
The Roland Metallic Color library in VersaWorks features 512 metallic colors that print using CMYK+Mt in a single pass. This palette includes silver, gold, bronze and other metallic colors. Users can also easily create and save their own custom metallic spot colors in Roland VersaWorks RIP software. VersaWorks can control up to four Roland devices including printers, printer/cutters and cutters. It prints cutter crop marks for an automated print/laminate/cut workflow. With Roland@NET, updates are free and easy, automatically uploaded through an Internet connection.
Roland Intelligent Pass Control technology developed by Roland software engineers represents the pinnacle of inkjet printing. This patent-pending system precisely controls dot placement between passes and delivers unprecedented imaging performance in all resolutions. The technology actually enhances image quality at higher print speeds thereby increasing productivity. As a result, the VS-640 produces smooth gradations and flawless solid colors while achieving faster throughput with virtually no banding in all print modes.
Equipped with Roland’s own 100 BASE-TX/10 BASE-T interface, the VS-640 connects seamlessly to office networks without additional software, achieving an increased data transmission rate of 100 Mb/sec. This makes it easy to configure a highly efficient printing environment.
The VS-640 is Energy Star certified and includes advanced features that minimize ink consumption, reducing environmental waste and operational costs. The VS-640 is certified by Roland’s Eco-Label system, an ISO 14021 Type II label certifying compliance with a company’s internal environmental standards.
The VS-640 features Roland OnSupport, an online customer support system allowing users to remotely track the status of VS-640 activities. The system sends e-mails to users notifying them of important information such as when a job is completed and when ink is running low. With Roland OnSupport, users can also quickly download firmware updates and important product information by accessing an exclusive website with just one mouse click.
As with all Roland inkjets, the VS-640 offers years of reliable service, even in the most demanding shop environments. Each one is built with solid construction and enhancements for precise media control. It also features print head maintenance systems for unmatched mechanical reliability.
